Stewardship 2009 Treasure for the Heart, the Soul, and the Mind
The Stewardship 2009 materials and pledge cards were mailed out on October 14th. We will not be circulating the Neighborhood Pledge Bag this year. Instead, our faithful captains will be contacting parishioners in person, by telephone, or by email to keep you informed about Stewardship 2009, to answer any questions you may have, and to remind you to send in your pledge cards by November 2nd, 2008, the end of the Annual Stewardship Pledge Drive. This year, we urge you to increase your pledge. Pressures of inflation, rising gas costs, and increased prices have a significant impact on the annual operating budget of the Church. The same dollar that you pledged to the Church in 1998 is now worth about 60 cents. Even the dollar you pledged last year is only worth 93 cents today. The programs at the Church of the Redeemer have continued to grow in order to fulfill our mission. An increased pledge of 10 percent keeps our program just barely ahead of inflation; a pledge of 20 percent allows us to move forward while preserving our endowment for capital expenses. With that in mind, we ask you to be as generous as you can when you consider Stewardship 2009. In past years, a core group of about 30 parishioners and parish families have contributed over half of our Annual Stewardship funds. We hope to achieve full participation in Stewardship 2009 from all members of our parish. Please help us make our rich parish life even stronger this year by giving to our treasure for heart, mind, and soul. Yours in Christ, Elliot Bostwick Davis Rick Weed IMPORTANT DATES Sunday, October 19th through Sunday, November 2nd: Annual Stewardship Pledge Drive Sunday, November 2nd: Annual Stewardship Pledge Drive ends. All pledges should be received by the Church Financial Office. December 31, 2009: Payments for Stewardship 2009 completed. |

Fall House Meetings The first series of House Meetings for the year will take place on the evenings of October 29th (at Karla Todd's), November 3rd (at the Grandins'), and November 10th (at the Sampsons'). We will build on the work we did last year when we gathered around significant questions our children had asked us, and how we have tried to answer them. Please show up for ninety minutes of wonderful food and conversation with people we guarantee you will love, all built around some of life’s big questions and the promises of God. Please sign up at the table outside Dorsey’s office. |

Youth Bible Study The Youth Bible Study is for students in the 6th grade and up and meets Sunday morning in the back classroom at 9:40am. In October, the Bible study will be delving into the book of I Samuel. We will be studying the call of the prophet Samuel as a little boy, the stealing of the Ark by the Philistines, and the rise of King Saul. As always, we will complete our Bible Study with a Bible oriented game like Bible Pictionary, Jeopardy, or charades. Bible Study will meet this month on October 5th, 19th, and 26th. Please have your youth join us for fun and learning. |

Youth and Family Fellowship Events 2008-09 We are going to have a great time this year as the Church of the Redeemer gathers momentum in Family Ministry. Last year we got off to a good start with our youth and family fellowship events, and we are looking to expand on our experiences. One lesson I learned from last year is to be very flexible with scheduling. You will see that with just a few exceptions, I have not yet scheduled dates or times for events. What I would like to do, is have parents and youth check out the Redeemer Family Blog at www.redeemerchestnuthill.blogspot.com. Through this blog we can have conversations that can include the scheduling of events. Hopefully, through this better communication, we can have even better support for our fellowship events. The blog is also a way to suggest other activities. I have found in my short time as a priest that many of the best ideas for family ministry are not mine, so please feel free to make suggestions through the blog, or through me personally.

Fall Hike On October 26th, immediately following the All Parish Eucharist, we will take a fall hike and enjoy the foliage and cool weather. We will be heading to the Arnold Arboretum, one of Boston’s great treasures, located at 125 Arborway. Please let me know if you have interest in enjoying the outdoors while taking in one of Boston’s great parks. We expect to be back by 2:00 so there will be plenty of time to enjoy the day even after the hike. We will see you there. To sign up, e-mail Marc at meames@redeemerchestnuthill.org. |

Once again, the Fellowship Committee is pleased to announce Foyers 2008 - 2009 !
We put together participants into groups of 8-10 people. Groups meet 4-5 times throughout the year for a pot-luck supper, rotating between different homes. Each group will have a Captain to keep things organized.
The only rule is to have fun. The goal is for the evenings to be low key, and low effort, a chance to stay in touch with long-time friends and make new friends alike. Foyers is for everyone; long-time participants and those new to the church, as it allows us to strengthen the bonds that make being a member of the Church of the Redeemer so special.
Ask any of the many who continue to participate year after year. Being a part of Foyers is great!
Sign up today !

UGANDA MISSION: SUMMER OF 2009 Information Session Sunday, November 9th, at 12:00 noon We are planning a family mission trip to Uganda from June 24th to July 8th, 2009, in partnership with Pilgrim-Uganda, an indigenous Christian agency working for the evangelism and redevelopment of the Teso (northeastern) region. The centerpiece of our work will be seven days spent at Beacon of Hope, a boarding school in Soroti, conducting enrichment programs for high-school age students. The trip is limited to twenty participants, and we are especially looking for missioners who have a desire to share a particular skill or passion by offering workshops to these youth during that week. In the past, teams have taught first aid, art, music, soccer, gymnastics, drama, and dance. We also can use adults with skills in medicine, particularly public health, engineering, biology, chemistry, and agriculture. However, please do not assume that, if you do not have any of these skills in particular, you should not go on the trip. In fact, you may be just the person we need to help everyone else do their jobs! And you may have a unique contribution to make we haven’t thought of, yet. So come on the 9th of November and find out more! |
