Stewardship 2009

Treasure for the Heart, the Soul, and the Mind

We offer our sincere thanks to all of the Captains and Parishioners who sent in their pledges during the Annual Pledge Drive.  In order to draw up the parish budget for the forthcoming year, it is extremely important that we hear from everyone who is still considering a pledge.  Funds to fulfill your gift may be paid through December 31, 2009.

If you are unsure how to pledge, or if you would like further information about Stewardship   2009, please contact either Elliot Davis or Rick Weed, Stewardship Co-Chairs.  We would be glad to assist you in every way possible.

The strength of our parish depends on you.  Please be generous as you consider your gift to Stewardship 2009.

 Yours in Christ,

 Elliot Bostwick Davis                                               Rick Weed

flower2_white_100.jpgCelebrate this Christmas flower2_white_100.jpg

with a Gift of Poinsettias

Did you know that this year the beautiful poinsettias, which adorn the Church of the Redeemer at Christmas, will be made possible by many financial donations from our Parishioners?

Our Christmas flower donations are made as a lovely way to remember those who are special to us, but gifts may be made “in celebration of” an event or important milestone as well as “in honor of,” “in memory of,” or “in thanksgiving for” loved ones.

Names that are received by December 21st will be printed in the Christmas worship service leaflets.

We suggest $50 for the first listing, $10 for each additional one, but, of course will welcome ANY AMOUNT.

We hope that you will contribute to the glorious celebration of Christmas at the Redeemer with a memorial gift.    The results of your generosity will be enjoyed by all who visit us at Christmas time.

Thank you.

Please fill in the form below and return it either to the Church office or by mail to Mrs. Nina Moriarty, Treasurer of the Altar Guild, 214 Heath Street, Chestnut Hill, MA  02467.

St. Stephen’s Epiphany Party

The St. Stephen’s Christmas party will now be held at St. Stephen’s (South End) on Tuesday, January 6th from 1pm - 5pm. This is a rescheduled date due to a snow cancellation by St. Stephen's.

We need volunteers for this party.  If you can help for an hour or if you can help for the entire party, we would be thrilled to have your assistance!  There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside Dorsey’s office – so please sign up!  The children of St. Stephen’s love their holiday party. Please consider supporting the children of St. Stephen’s!  If you have questions, please contact Laura Patton at 617-232-5175 or laurated@rcn.com.

Prayer at the Redeemer

The Church School is interested in putting together a book of prayer.  We are looking for favorite prayers.  Do you say a certain prayer every night, or dinner table grace, or did you say one as a child?  We are interested in collecting all of these prayers and making them available to parishioners.  This will be a good way to share some time honored prayers, but it also could be filled with prayers that have some local or family color.  Praying prayers that another member of the congregation wrote, or prays regularly, will also make us remember to pray for each other, and these prayers will comfort us in knowing that we are not alone in our faith.  There is a great cloud of witnesses that join us in our prayers. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail me at meames@redeemerchestnuthill.org.

Annual Reports

Just a reminder that annual reports from all committees or groups

are due on Monday, January 5, 2009.

You may mail them in or e-mail them to office@redeemerchestnuthill.org.

Please make every effort to have your report in on time.

Many thanks!

Youth Bible Study

The Youth Bible Study is for students in the 6th grade and up which meets Sunday morning in the back classroom at 9:40 am.  In December, the Bible Study group continued examining the book of 1 Samuel.  We studied the fall of King Saul and the rise of King David.  In January, we will begin our study of the Gospel of Mark.  As always, we will complete our Bible Study with a Bible-oriented game like Bible Pictionary, Jeopardy, or Bible Improv.  The Bible Study group is also continuing its work of writing prayers for the All Parish Eucharist.

Youth Bible Study will meet next month on January 4th, 11th, and 25th.  Please have your youth join us for fun and learning.

Confirmation Class

The Confirmation Class had a great month in December as we concluded our look at the Church’s authority based on scripture, tradition, and reason.  We had a lively discussion on Christian ethics and investigated alternative ethical theories like those proposed by Kant and Mills.  The class also enjoyed a Christmas movie night on December 12th featuring Charlie Brown’s Christmas, which went very well.  We will continue our series of movie nights on Friday, January 23rd at 7:00 pm in the Old Parish Hall.  On the academic side, we will be investigating the Nicene Creed on Sunday, January 4th and Sunday, January 25th at 5:15 pm.

 January Confirmation Class Dates

1/4        5:15 Nicene Creed -- Who is God?

1/23      7:00 Confirmation Movie Night

1/25      5:15 Nicene Creed -- Who is Jesus?  Is the Spirit Necessary?

Youth and Family Fellowship Event in January

Sledding and Ice Skating

On Sunday, January 4th at 2:00 pm at Lars Anderson Park in Brookline, the Church of the Redeemer will go sledding (assuming we have snow).  Lars Anderson has some fantastic hills for snow adventures.  This should be a wonderful and fun event.  Sledding is a great winter tradition that gets us good and tired for a post-sledding winter nap. If there is no snow, L, we will reschedule for later in the winter.

We will also go to Lars Anderson again to go ice skating sometime in the first half of the winter.  Last year, a bunch of us went ice skating and had lots of fun.  I encourage everyone to come out and watch the little ones skate circles around me (last year was my first time skating).  Please look for the announcement on ice skating and join us.
