Bible Study with the Rector

Grace for the Road:

Midweek Bible Studies for Ordinary Life

bible-study.jpg

Paul's letter to the Romans has, arguably, had more influence on the Christian Church over the last 500 years than any single book of the Bible.  In it he articulates his vision of the sovereignty of God and the necessity of grace, and does so in a way that is personally revealing and, at times, profoundly moving.  These studies are times of vibrant conversation and questioning, as we all seek a closer walk with Christ.  And the coffee is good, too!  We guarantee you will walk out re-charged for the rest of your week.

Men’s Bible Study, Wednesdays, 7:00 am

Women’s Bible Study, Thursdays, 9:15 am

Both Bible Studies meet at the Rectory, 381 Hammond Street

ANNUAL MEETING

Of the Parish
Of the Church of the Redeemer

Please join us for the Annual Meeting of the Parish of the Church of the Redeemer, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to be held on February 8, 2009 at 11:15 a.m.

This year we are returning to an old tradition of holding the Annual Meeting in the Parish Hall.  We hope that this will provide a more inviting venue for conversation and fellowship with other parishioners.

Lunch will be served and childcare provided.  There will be a special dessert following the meeting to honor the many years of service of Suzy Westcott as Senior Warden on her retirement as well. Retiring and former Vestry Members Tina Rowley, Hally Mundel, Lynda Forse, and Jane Metcalf will also be honored.

Please sign up on the signup sheet in the office hallway if you know, or think, you will be attending.

Prayer at the Redeemer

The Church School is interested in putting together a book of prayer.  We are looking for favorite prayers.  Do you say a certain prayer every night, or dinner table grace, or did you say one as a child?  We are interested in collecting all of these prayers and making them available to parishioners.  This will be a good way to share some time-honored prayers, but it also could be filled with prayers that have some local or family color.  Praying prayers that another member of the congregation wrote, or prays regularly, will also make us remember to pray for each other, and these prayers will comfort us in knowing that we are not alone in our faith.  There is a great cloud of witnesses that join us in our prayers. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail me at meames@redeemerchestnuthill.org.

The Youth Bible Study is for students in the 6th grade and up. It meets most Sunday mornings in the Back Classroom at 9:40 am.  In January, the Bible Study group began studying the book of Mark.  We studied the Baptism of Christ and his early ministries.  In February, we will continue our study of this first Gospel.  As always, we will complete our Bible Study with a Bible-oriented game like Bible Pictionary, Jeopardy, or Bible Improv.  The Bible Study group is also continuing its work of writing prayers for the All Parish Eucharist.  Youth Bible Study will meet this month on February 8th and 22nd.  Please have your youth join us for fun and learning.

Confirmation Class

The Confirmation Class will have a very busy February, meeting on February 1st and 8th to discuss the Sacraments.  On February 20th, the class joins older youth in our congregation on an exciting trip to New York City to visit the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.  The Nightwatch program at St. John’s, where youth get to spend time worshiping and meeting other youth from across the country in the Cathedral overnight, is a long-standing program with great success.  The next morning our youth will have the opportunity to walk around New York City and go to the popular Broadway show, Wicked
